Organizations need to understand what they generate, how it should be characterized, when compatible small containers may be managed through a laboratory pack, when a distinct waste stream should be profiled, how containers are accumulated and documented, and where the material ultimately goes.

Waste Characterization & Profiling
A waste profile should accurately represent the waste stream and support the receiving facility's acceptance decision and treatment/disposal method. B² can help organizations review process knowledge, safety data, analytical information, waste composition and vendor requirements so the profile reflects the actual material.
Laboratory Packing
Laboratory packing can be appropriate for compatible small containers and diverse laboratory chemicals, but it requires competent segregation, compatibility review, inventory control, packaging and shipping coordination. A lab pack is not a substitute for understanding the waste.
Vendor & Disposal-Path Review
Where waste goes matters. Treatment, recycling, fuel blending, incineration and other management methods have different technical, regulatory, cost and risk implications. B² can help evaluate the proposed destination and management method, documentation, vendor performance and project closeout.

Why the disposal path matters
EPA's hazardous-waste manifest system tracks regulated hazardous waste from the generator through the off-site facility that receives it. That accountability is one reason generators should understand not only who picks up the waste, but the designated destination and management method.
