Published research experience spanning biochemistry, biomedical science and medical microbiology/parasitology.
Qualifications & Experience
More than 20 years of multidisciplinary experience behind B² technical consulting.
The Experience Behind the Work
B² is built on more than 20 years of work where science, hazardous materials, environmental compliance and worker safety meet real operations.
Career Depth
Brian began his career in environmental services as an environmental chemist and laboratory packer. His work included hazardous-waste characterization and profiling, laboratory packing, segregation and packaging, reactive-material management, onsite chemical testing, regulatory audits and disposal coordination. He helped build onsite environmental services supporting Continental Airlines, developed environmental training and waste profiles, documented programs in operating manuals, and built a self-sustaining pilot-scale wastewater treatment operation. His work also included coordination and packaging associated with reactive and explosive-material disposal.
Across approximately 15 years at a major research university, Brian built and managed laboratory-safety systems supporting diverse scientific disciplines. He served as Chemical Hygiene Officer from 2010–2025, managing the university Chemical Hygiene Program; served five years as Laser Safety Officer and ten years as Assistant Laser Safety Officer; and served in interim Biological Safety Officer roles while continuously supporting the biosafety program as Assistant Biological Safety Officer. He completed professional-development training supporting these specialized program responsibilities.
His broader responsibilities included industrial hygiene, incident investigation, hazardous-waste management, laboratory inspections and audits, safety training, committee service, temporary support of radiation-safety and industrial-hygiene functions, and emergency response in an Emergency Support Function 10 hazardous-materials role. He also supported university incubator companies as they scaled operations and participated in commissioning technical facilities, including a semiconductor operation.
Brian's current industrial work applies that foundation to R&D laboratories, pilot operations and advanced manufacturing. His professional experience includes industrial-hygiene investigations, chemical-exposure assessment, ventilation evaluation, process and pilot-trial risk reviews, chemical hygiene, hazardous-waste programs, incident investigation, emergency planning, inspection systems, job-hazard analysis, training, contractor/vendor coordination, and operational readiness. This current hands-on work keeps B² grounded in the realities of modern technical operations.
Scientific Foundation
Published research experience spanning biochemistry, biomedical science and medical microbiology/parasitology.
Graduate training and research involving nanoscience, nanotoxicology and interdisciplinary characterization.
Research involving surface science, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thin films, atomic layer deposition, optical ceramics and advanced materials.
Brian has authored and coauthored peer-reviewed scientific work across life science and advanced materials. That scientific background matters when an EHS problem requires understanding the chemistry, material, experimental method or process—not merely checking a compliance box.
